What to buy for someone who already has everything no decent person would ever want? How about George Zimmerman's autograph? The Trayvon Martin gunman is now sending personally signed thank-you cards to anyone who donates to his legal defense fund.
Never mind that donors who think Zimmerman was in the right have already raised hundreds of thousands of dollars and set him up in a cushy safe house. He's still burdened with hefty "living expenses and legal costs," according to GZDefenseFund.com. The remaining balance is apparently not enough to meet these expenses, so his lawyers are trying a new tack: offering selective benefits. You know how NPR call-in contributors get a tote bag? This is like the nightmare version of that:
Each card will be personaly signed by George. The identity of all donors will continue to be kept strictly confidential, and the envelope of the Thank You Cards will not have any reference to Mr. Zimmerman or the O'Mara Law Group.
Zimmerman will plead not guilty to second-degree murder, citing Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law, at a hearing that could happen as soon as April 2013. In a similar case revolving around the law in the death of Jordan Russell Davis, alleged gunman Michael Dunn also pleaded not guilty.
