COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) – Scott Winkler had two goals and two assists as Colorado College rolled over seventh-ranked North Dakota 5-3 Friday in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
Alexander Krushelnyski added a goal and three assists for the Tigers (8-6-1, 5-2-0), who also got three assists from Charlie Taft.
Colorado College snapped a four-game winless streak.
North Dakota has given up five goals in two straight games and three times in the last six.
“We gave up two or three goals that were a little too easy,” North Dakota coach Dave Hakstol said. “There are nights when you play quite well and come away with nothing. You go on the road and score three goals you should have chance to win.”
North Dakota outshot the Tigers 47-26, ending a string of seven straight games of being outshot. But it didn’t help as Colorado College goalie Joe Howe made 44 saves. Howe had 16 stops in the first period and 15 in the third.
It was 1-1 midway through the second period when Colorado College scored three straight goals. Winkler got his first goal at 11:45 of the third period. Drake Caggiula cut into the lead for North Dakota (6-5-2, 3-2-2) less than a minute later, but Winkler scored again 20 seconds later.
Caggiula got credit for a second goal the bounced off him and into the net.
UND goalie Clarke Saunders made 21 saves, with a high of eight in the third period.
Colorado College’s Archie Skalbeck had his seven-game point scoring streak end while North Dakota’s Corban Knight extended his point-scoring streak to eight games.
North Dakota has split six straight road series and will need a win on Saturday to end that.
