(CBS4) – A suspected car thief is in custody after allegedly leading officers on a chase across five counties. The incident started at about 4 p.m. on Saturday. Officers tried to stop a suspicious vehicle in Kit Carson County but the driver sped past Limon and into Deer Trail. At times, the chase reached up to 100 mph. Troopers searched for hours, then spotted the car in a driveway near Byers with the driver still in it. (credit: CBS) That man has been arrested and is accused of stealing a car in the state of Washington. Police are also looking into whether the suspect was involved in a carjacking. Officers say they found a gun in the car. The driver is now facing charges of auto theft, reckless driving, vehicular eluding and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
