This looks pretty terrible. According to Newsbusters, during ABC News' coverage of the Republican National Convention (or whatever there was of it) on Monday, an unidentified commentator made a Katrina-Romney-Isaac joke at the Romneys' expense, saying that "they [the Romneys] are happy to have a party with black people drowning." Oof. As Matthew Sheffield, of the conservative media watchdog points out, the incident was broadcast on the Internet.
The video, uploaded ABC News' YouTube account, is featured below (the gross "joke" is featured below and happens within the first few seconds):
Sheffield is "presuming" that the line is from an ABC News producer, and is using it as an opportunity to point out the lack of "unbiased" reporting at the network. (Brian Ross's Tea Party-Aurora bungle certainly isn't going to help.) Writes Sheffield: "The anti-Romney joke was made while the person, presumably an ABC News producer, was on an active microphone, apparently unaware that his/her quips against the former Massachusetts governor were being recorded and broadcast live."
We've reached out to ABC News, which has so far not issued a statement explaining who the person is or why that line appeared, and hasn't taken the video down. We'll update as soon as we hear something.
