DENVER (CBS4)- Interior Secretary and Former U.S. Senator from Colorado Ken Salazar spoke at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday. He believes Colorado plays an important role in the upcoming election for many reasons.
“President Obama has seen the importance of Colorado in the upcoming election because it holds a special place for him. He won there in 2008. It was there that he received the nomination at Mile High Stadium to be President of the United States. One of the reasons is Colorado is close to his heart. Second is it’s a battleground state. The nine electoral votes of Colorado are being highly sought after. The president wants to win Colorado, we expect that he will win Colorado. He will be spending a lot of time there making sure that the people of Colorado recognize his agenda and his program and the contrast between him and Gov. Romney,” said Salazar.

He also believes Colorado will recognize the difference between the two candidates and the role they play in the economy.
“Frankly that’s what makes such a big difference between President Obama on one hand and Mitt Romney on the other. Gov. Romney has not walked in those shoes of the ordinary Americans and frankly I don’t think he has the capacity to quite understand the struggle that the 98 percent of Americans go through every single day,” said Salazar. “The president has always been focused on the economy from day one.”
