ARVADA, Colo. (CBS4) – It’s a week away from Sept. 11, and this weekend Coloradans can remember those lost with a run and walk.
The Homefront Heroes’ annual 9/11 Remembrance Run benefits Operation Restoration, an outpatient mental health treatment program for military veterans and their families. It also supports troops deployed overseas and those returning home.
Hundreds of runners and walkers lace up their sneakers each year.
Along with the Remembrance Run/Walk, Homefront Heroes provides services all year long to benefit active American troops and veterans who have served our country around the world.
“Our purpose is to empower ordinary Americans to support the troops and their families,” Linda Ferguson with Homefront Heroes said. “We support veterans and active duty troops, reservists and National Guard and their families right here in our own community.”
The fifth annual 9/11 Remembrance Run/Walk is coming to Arvada on Sept. 8. The event offers a 5K for competitive runners, a 5K walk/run for families, a 10K run, and a ½ marathon.
The 10K and ½ Marathon are new additions this year to cater to the needs of the competitive runners looking to training for the upcoming Denver Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and the Boulder Marathon.
The races will begin and end in Memorial Park in Arvada. The 5K and first half of the 10K will follow the parade route for the Arvada Harvest Festival Parade, while the ½ marathon course includes the Ralston and Clear Creek Trails.
Every racer will enjoy a t-shirt, goody bag, and race pictures. Following the races, participants are welcomed to enjoy patriotic activities, music, and food.
