GREELEY, Colo. (CBS4) – Recreational shooters using illegal tracer bullets were the cause of a fire on the Pawnee National Grassland over the weekend.
Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests spokesperson Reghan Cloudman said irresponsible recreational shooting caused about a dozen fires on the grasslands so far in 2012.
“The most recent shooters did remain on scene after the fire started, but were cited and fined $525 for their actions,” Cloudman said in a statement.
Cloudman said recreational shooters need to educate themselves about the regulations for shooting on National Forest System lands. Visit a special section of USDA.gov. Regulations for other activities can be found in another special section of USDA.gov, or call visitor information services at (970) 346-5000.
