DENVER (CBS4) – Officials hope new signs and road markings on E-470 will prevent people from going the wrong way and hopefully save lives.
New arrows will be painted on all 36 off-ramps. It’s hoped that they will catch the attention of drunk drivers who often focus on the pavement right in front of them.
Flashing “wrong way” signs will be also be added lower than the existing ones. That should help prevent drivers from mistakenly trying to enter the highway on the ramps at night.
Last year an elderly woman went the wrong way on E-470 in heavy fog and crashed into another car. Both drivers died.
E-470 says it’s had about two dozen wrong-way drivers in the last 12 months.
